On her new album Havoc and Bright Lights, Alanis Morissette distills her entire body of work into its closing track “Edge of Evolution.” “…we’re ready to push envelopes into full-blown consciousness,” she declares in the final verse. “The evolution of our consciousness can be such a lofty, overly heady, and, frankly, confusing conversation for people,” Morissette says.
Multi-platinum, Grammy winning artist Alanis Morissette, is releasing her new album Havoc And Bright Lights, on August 28th (Collective Sounds/Sony RED). Produced by Guy Sigsworth (Bjork, Madonna, Seal) and Joe Chiccarelli (Tori Amos, Elton John, My Morning Jacket, U2) and recorded in Los Angeles, the album marks the songstress' first release in four years.
This record, as always, is a snapshot of what I currently obsess about, care about, and what strikes me at 4 in the morning in my most introspective moments, says Morissette. It is my emotional, psychological, social and philosophical commentary through song. I can't wait to share it with this fun and funny planet, and to tour, and can't WAIT to have the lively, engaging and challenging conversations that these songs may invite.
Alanis Morissette's seventh studio album, the spry and hopeful Havoc and Bright Lights, couldn't be more thematically different than 2008's brooding, techno-kissed Flavors of Entanglement, which dealt with the emotional fallout from the dissolution of her engagement with actor Ryan Reynolds. Produced by Guy Sigworth (Seal, Bjork, Madonna) and Joe Chiccarelli (My Morning Jacket, Counting Crows), the 12 songs on Bright Lights bristle with the explosive choruses and unguarded intimacy that have become Morissette's stock in trade since her 1995 debut, but with a newfound focus on marriage and motherhood; she wed rapper Mario “MC Souleye” Treadway, and gave birth to her first child, Ever Imre, in2010.
